As the reigning champions, the Boston Pride of the NWHL set out to repeat their Isobel Cup championship with a team that was largely the same. Heading into the last weekend of the season, they were undefeated. They fell to the New York Riveters in the last regular season game but rebounded in the playoffs to make it to the Isobel Cup finals. It was a rematch of the previous season's finals with the Pride playing the Buffalo Beauts, the fourth seed team. In an upset for the ages, the Beauts won, shocking the Pride.
